Types of Solar Batteries in Pakistan

Types of Solar Batteries in Pakistan

We need electricity to use almost all appliances, such as fans, AC, ovens, laptops, TVs, and even vehicles at our homes, offices, or public service areas. Due to high electricity demand, I wanted to install a solar system for my house. To install a successful solar system, I need a battery that stores energy generated by solar panels. There are many types of solar batteries available in Pakistan. Buying a battery for a significant reason is challenging because of expense and high usage. When I started searching for it online, guess what?

I haven’t found any helpful information on the internet that explicitly suits Pakistan’s needs and considers economic factors, too. Pakistan is a developing country. The electricity demand is high, but the supply is continuously getting low. I decided to fill this gap. I started doing more research by visiting the physical market, doing online research, and, most importantly, reviewing people’s reviews of the best batteries for solar systems, which are called tubular batteries. They are the most affordable and reliable option to consider.

In this article, I will share information about why we need batteries, the types of solar batteries, and, most importantly, the best solution for this purpose. I will also share the process, voltage, and other details you must know before making such an essential decision.

What is the type of Solar Battery?

Solar batteries are an essential component of any solar power system. They enable you to store your solar panels’ energy, ensuring you have a reliable and sustainable power source even when the sun isn’t shining. They can be fully charged after just an hour of sun exposure. Different types of Solar batteries are specifically designed to store energy from solar panels. If you want to reduce your carbon footprint and take control of your energy usage, a solar battery is a must-have investment.

Why do we need different types of solar batteries for our solar system?

Solar panels absorb energy from the sun during the day, but what happens at night or on cloudy days when the sun’s energy isn’t available? This is where batteries come in. By storing the excess energy generated during the daytime, we can use it at night or during cloudy weather, which allows us to enjoy energy independence and avoid the rising cost of electricity bills. To store solar energy different types of solar batteries available with different capacities. Thanks to solar power, we can say goodbye to load shedding and enjoy a reliable source of electricity.

How does the process work?

These plates have photovoltaic (PV) cells that absorb sunlight and convert it into proton energy, which is then used to produce electricity through the emission of electrons. The energy produced can be stored in batteries for use at any time, making it a reliable and sustainable power source. There are different types of solar batteries available and you can buy according to your need.

Types of solar batteries for solar Panels

Several types of solar batteries can be used to store energy from solar power plants in Pakistan. These batteries are ideal for both commercial and residential use. Some common types of batteries include lead-acid batteries, flat plate batteries, tubular plate batteries, and dry batteries.

Lead Acid Batteries

Lead Acid Batteries are Pakistan’s most commonly used batteries due to their reliability and affordability.

They come in two main types: flat plate batteries, which are commonly found in cars and scooters, and tubular plate batteries, which are an upgraded version of flat plate batteries.

Tubular batteries are more reliable and have a longer lifespan. They use tubular plates, which provide more capacity for storing electrical energy and do not have overheating issues. They support fast charging.

An exciting feature of tubular plate batteries is that they have water indicators on the top, instead of standard caps, eliminating the need to open and check the water level.

Dry Batteries

Dry batteries are also known as gel batteries. We must keep it somewhere over 25 degrees Celsius to ensure dry battery health and long life.

This can be achieved by storing them in a cool natural environment or an air-conditioned room. However, in Pakistan, this temperature range can be challenging to maintain. Therefore, buying dry batteries that can withstand the required temperature is essential. It requires little to no maintenance and has a better DOD of 75%.

Lithium Ion Batteries

Lithium Ion batteries  are a relatively new addition to the market. These batteries have gained popularity due to their use in electric vehicles like Tesla. These batteries have no shortage of charge and are known for their reliability, excellent storage, and High depth of discharge (DOD) of up to 95%. The major disadvantage of Lithium Ion Batteries is that they are costly.

Pros & Cons for different types of Solar Batteries

Pros Cons
Lead Acid Batteries
Affordable Easily accessible Long-lasting Easy maintenanceTemperature friedly Heavy Regular maintenance
Dry Batteries
Long shelf life Less MaintenanceLimited capacityHarmful environmental Impact
Lithium Ion Batteries
Lightweight Provides high energy density Maintenance-freeLong lifespan Fast charging capability Costly investment Safety concerns due to overcharging

According to my research, installing a solar power plant is one of the best decisions you can make. However, it requires a significant budget and investment. If you can afford it, I recommend opting for lithium-ion batteries. Trust me, you won’t regret this investment because of the numerous benefits they offer, including their excellent price and storage capacity as compared to others.

Characteristics of a Good type of solar Battery

This part of the blog includes some crucial aspects that you must consider while buying a battery for your solar power plant:
1. The battery you choose should be able to fast charge and take advantage of all the solar plates you have installed.
2. Buying solar plates and a battery for them is a long-term decision, so make sure you consider the reliability factor rather than changing batteries again and again.
3. Your battery must have a large storage capacity, approximately 10kWh and 20kWh.
4. The battery you choose must have multiple cycles.
5. Last but not least, the price factor should be affordable not just for the batteries but for the solar system as well. One must check current prices for solar plates before buying
